Today’s inspiration came from one of the groups I participate in on Flickr. I was a little worried that I didn’t have any old photos, but I was in luck. I found this one of Snickers and I. I thought I could recreate it with Molly. Aren’t we all too cute! I also discovered I that I look pretty good in pigtails even at 30!
Twitter is something I discovered last spring with the help of a friendly reference librarian (also known on the web as tinfoilraccoon) from my local library (now–my place of employment). According to Twitter’s FAQ…
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Bloggers can use it as a mini-blogging tool. Developers can use the API to make Twitter tools of their own. Possibilities are endless!
How do I use it?
Tell us what you’re doing in 140 characters or less! Send your thoughts, observations, and goings-on in your day. Whether you’re “eating an apple” or “looking foward to the weekend” or “Heading out of town” it’s twitter-worthy.
But… what is the point?
As it turns out, your best friend is probably interested in knowing if you’re “loving the new Radiohead album.” And yes, your Mom may want to know if you’re “skipping breakfast in favor of a latte.” You might want to know if your significant other “feels like taking a roadtrip.” Find out what your friends are doing; keep each other abreast of your quotidian rituals.
At first, I wasn’t so sure of the point of “twittering” (even after reading the FAQ, but now almost a year latter I am hooked for more then one reason…
It has become a major form of communication between my husband, Joel, and I. Joel started a new job with Accenture. He travels 100% of the time during the work week. When he and I use twitter especially the text messaging feature we can keep up on what each other is doing wherever we are.
It makes me smile, especially the posts from people I know offline–husband, co-workers, friends and family, so for those of you already twittering keep it up and for those of you who haven’t tried it yet–what is holding you back? You can make it as private or as public as you want it to be. Right now Joel and I both have our updates set to be public, so that our friends and family who don’t want join in, can still see our tweets. It also allows us to publish our tweets to our Facebook accounts.
I have learned new things from people I would have never met or encountered any where else.
I could probably go on and on about the reasons why I am hooked on Twitter, but I’ll stop with the three big ones.
If you would like to check it out go to www.twitter.com or visit my twitter page. You can also find Joel on Twitter. We both would love to follow more of our friends and family on twitter, but beware it can be addictive and fun!
I had always heard that Danskos were the best shoes around. A couple years ago I bought my first pair, black sandals, to wear at weddings while I was working for Mueller Photography. They were expensive, but just what I needed at the time. Last year I had surgery on my left foot to remove a bone chip. My left foot feels great, but now is slightly bigger then my right. Many of my shoes just weren’t fitting right. The ones that fit ok were giving me smelly feet problems which if you are part of my family you know has been problem all my life. After a long day on my feet, I also would end up with painful leg aches. So, in December I treated myself to a new pair of black and brown Danskos. As many of you know who own Danskos that is a bit of an investment.
Yesterday, I wanted to go for a casual look, so I decided to pull out my Born black tie shoes. Usually they feel pretty good and before I discovered Dansko I was quite impressed with them. I worked for eight hours yesterday and might have been on my feet a little bit more than normal, but not too bad. Last night my legs ached, not horribly, but enough that I decided to take Ibuprofen. After thinking about it a bit, I don’t think I have had leg aches since I bought my Dansko shoes in December.
My lesson…my Danskos are worth what I paid for them!
Don’t worry Chacos you have a special place in my heart that will never be filled by any other shoe…more on Chacos as sandal season nears.
Are you wondering how I keep myself busy while Joel’s out of town? Not to worry, I have a camera and a front stoop that’s all a girl really needs. I was a actually feeling a bit self conscious doing this since we live on one of the busiest streets in town. I give you permission to laugh, I did and I am sure if Cammie could laugh she would. If you would like to see the photos larger you can visit my Leap Day Set on Flickr. If you would like to see the final edit of the photo I used for my self portrait project you can check it out here or scroll down a bit.
This week I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone. Joel spent his first week full week away from home, in Chicago, IL. He is in training for his new job. We usually talk or IM (instant message) every night. I think my cell phone is revolting, the battery doesn’t seem to last a full day!
Joel’s been gone a week and will be gone another week. Joel and I have never been a part for more then a week. This whole travel job is an adventure, but not always a fun one. I look forward to seeing him on Friday. Hopefully the weather will be agreeable and Joel will make it home late on Friday evening–Leap Day.
You can check out Joel’s blog–Journey by Joel–for his updates on time in Chicago.
For a challenge this week, I recreated the cover to one of my favorite books, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It was the first image of mine that I actually discovered on Explore on Flickr–meaning it was one of the top photos posted that day.
One of the big questions we are facing as a nation is who will be our next President. I have been following the primaries in other states closer then I have ever followed an election before. A couple of years ago I saw a man on the Oprah Winfrey show (yes, I sometimes watch Oprah). Before this show I only knew him as a senator from Illinois. That day I met the author Barack Obama. At that time, I thought he would make an interesting candidate for our next President. For whatever reason I was up late the night of the New Hampshire primary watching CNN waiting to hear who they were declaring to be the winners of that primary…Hillary Clinton won, but the speech Barack Obama gave was unforgettable. Not only did he make me pause and think, “Maybe, I should vote for this man,” he inspired me and gave me hope that our nation doesn’t have to be the way it is. Is he the answer? I don’t know.
Today, I was reading and article on New York Times’s website titled “Is Obama a Mac and Clinton a PC?,” an interesting article about the two democratic candidates’ websites. From here, I decided it might be time to start checking out their websites since next week as a Wisconsin voter I get to help make the big decision of who will be the candidate for our country’s Presidential Election. I found the following video on Barack Obama’s website…
…it brought tears to my eyes and I have listened to it multiple times in the last half hour trying to find out who transformed one of the most inspiring speeches of my lifetime into a very inspiring song and video. You can read the story behind the song, here at Will I Am’s website. Also, for a list of the people who participated in the song and video, scroll to the bottom of this page.
I don’t know who I am voting for yet, but right now I like what I see from Barack Obama.
This week I played with black and white images in Photoshop Elements. Sometimes I think black and white photographs look so much more powerful and interesting then color.
